Barton repudiates the suggestion tliat the Kanakas deported from Quieensland will be killed, couked, and eaten by their, fellows in the Islands. Every precaution ■will be taken, hu tsnys, and if there is any danger to Kanakas who are returned to one particular island, they will be taken to another. AUSTRALIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS. SYDNEY, March 30. Colclough, the Queensland swimmer, has withdrawn liis protest against Hamilton, the New Zealander, in connection with the recent Plunging Championship. The grounds of the protest wae that Hamilton was over his time limit. THREE YOUNG LADIES DROWNED. The Misses Clapperton (2), of Brooking station, in the Wagga district, and Miss Gray, of Kentucky station, weie bathing in the Murrumbi-rfge-e. Miss Gray got out of her depth, and the two Misses Clapperton went to h*r assistance, with the result that all three were drowned. A LIBEL CASE.
