PRISONER MURDERS TWO MEN IN GAOL.

A Kanaka, awaiting trial on a charge of murder, was in the exercise yard with a number of other prisoners. He somehow got possession of an axe, and attacked and killed a white man named James Martin. The lock-up-keeper, named Johnson, entered, .and the Kanaka killed him. A police sergeant climbed a tree outside the yard, and shot the Kanaka in the thigh. The murderer entered hie cell, and then the police , rushed him, and after a struggle overpowered him.
