THE EVENING SERVICE.

A large overflow, meeting in the Alexandra Hall was found necessary in the evening for the benefit of those who could not find admittance to the Canterbury Hall. Mr Alexander led the singing, and gave solos in both rooms in turn, and in the main hall Dr. Torrey preached a sermon on the wickedness of not recognising Christ. The man who would net recognise the Saviour who had been scourged for his transgressions, bruised for his iniquities, and upon whom the chastisement of his peace had been laid, was, he said, however estimable he might appear in other respects, a most miserable, black-hearted, ungrateful wretch. Dr. Torrey declared that he would _ko to see nwne_arcise the same com-mon-sense in religion, as they did in business matters. Many .persons who were sensible enough in commercial affaire, talked like fools when spoken to on religious matters. He referred to the good and evil influences which swayed Pilate before he decided to deliver up Christ, and stated that the same voices of right aod wrong were spealring to all those before him, moving them to accept and to reject Christ respectively. As the result of the preacher's appeal to them to do so, a considerable number of those present stood up, and declared their intention of leading a new life. 6
