ANOTHER ADDRESS TO BUSINESS MEN.
The third of Dr. Torrey's .addresses to business men, given yesterday afternoon at the Alexandra Hall, was ecceedingly well attended, many being able to obtain seating accommodation. Dr. Torrey continued his subject, 'Why I believe in the Bible," and in the course cf his remarks pointed out that notwithstanding the attacks made upon it, the Bible still holds its place— an evidence of its _npregi_~«lity. The characters of those who believe and of those wlio disbelieve in the Bible were described, and the speaker gave an in-terestingly-told illustration. Suppose, he said, he went into am hotel. "I suppose you'faave publk-bouses here," he asked, and his audience intimated that they did exist by smiling. ''Shame on you, then," he continued; "why don't you rise in your strength and do away with them?" Suppose, he continued, he went into an hotel, and placed his Bible on tbe bar and asked for a glass of whisky. Would not someone come up and turn over the book and ask what he meant by his conduct? But suppose that instead of the Bible, he had placed a copy of Ingersoll's "Mistakes of Moses" on the bar, and asked for alcoholic refreshment, why no one would think anything of it. ' The fact was that whisky and the Bible did not go well together. The power of God's Word to uplift man from the deepest depths to a life of purity was proof of its Divine origin, for a stream could hot risehigher than its source, and a book which had the power of uplifting men to the highest good must have come from God. England had from savagery by means of the Bi&le. (Applause.) "Then," asked the speaker, "why do you shut it out of your public schools?" At different parts of his address Dr. Torrey was heartily applauded.
