HORNBY.
A* a meeting of the Hornby Committee tnere were present—Messrs Kinross (chairman), Leslie, Hunun, Manhire, Eaglesome, and Corbett. The Headmaster reported that the number on the roll was 144, the highest attendance last month 135. and average attendance 125. The Inspector's report "was considered satisfactory. Correspondence -was received from the Truant Officer relating to faulty summonses issued againsT parents in the district. A long discussion ensued, several members expressing the opinion that the Truant Officer should have at least informed the Committee before taking action. Ultimately it was decided to further consider the matter at next meeting. A circular was iecei'ved from the Board of Education explaining alteration of regulations for scholarships. The alterations were deemed fair and reasonable, and it was decided to hand circular to the master, and ask him if there were any pupils of sufficient promise in the school to prepare for said scholarships. The Visiting Committee reported that the tree-planting on Arbor Day had been carried out enthusiastically by the children in the upper a_e_idards. Messrs Leslie and Eaglesome were appointed a Visiting Committee.
