LIQUOR LEGISLATION IN TASMANIA.
(Received July 23rd, 12.24 a.m.) HOBART, July 22. Parliament was opened to-day. The Governor's speech announced that the session would be chiefly financial. Direct taxation would have to be imposed to counteract the heavy shortage from tne remission of Customs under the Federal tariff. Constitution Amending and Licensing Amending Act« were the most important bills. The Premier's proposals wi.- regard to the latter, especially as to permitting the licensing of drinking saloons, and the vending of liquors in boardingr-houses. has roused the indignation of the temperance bodies.
