GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

(BT OUR CO_r__S_____L KDITOK.) Tuesday Evening. Mail advices from New York to April sth state that carefully collected reports on the condition of the crop in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Indiana showed that there was no reason to e_pect ; anything like an average crop in the south-west. The "Cincinnatti Price Current," however, stated ___t the wheat crop was fully maintaining its fairly good condition, while Vne weather was favourable, and the spring Vas opening with the agricu_t_faL outlook of an encouraging character. In England, according to Dornbusch _ Floating Cargoes Evening List, of April 4th, a large area of spring corn had been sown, and although the autumn-sown wheat was not forward for the time of the year, there were no apprehensions, respecting a good outturn, provided weather conditions remain seasonable. The appearance of autumn-sown wheat and rye in Erance was good, and the early spring crops had come up well, while in the late districts the sowing was almost completed. The weather in Germany had become colder, with alternations of rain and snow, but without causing any uneasiness. In Hungary the weather was changeable, but not unfavourable to development. The crops in Roumania were in good condition, having derived benefit from the reins. With regard to the Russian crops, Odessa advices stated that they were in good condition in that district and in the neighbouring governments. Argentine wheat exports to Europe are smai'ier ifchan" _ast year, the total from January Ist. to April 4_h being 8,432,000 bushels, against 13,832,000 bushels for the corresponding period of 1901. On the other hand, much more maize has been shipped, the quantity being 4,703,500 quarters, against 2.689,000 quarters. The local grain markets are very quiet, and beyond the ordinary trade for loca", purposes and coastal shipment, there is. nothing being done, except the clearing up of old orders. Offerings of both wheat and oats are scarce, and local buyers, who require oats for shipment are obtaining their supplies in the south. Prices are without quotable change. Oatsheaf chaff is scarce, and prices ore firmer. There is not much doing in potatoes, and any sales that take, place are on the basis of quotations. Private cable advice has been received to the effect tha the Sydney market has declined 10s per ton. __eM-".-o_rne "Leader" of the 10th inst. states that New Zealand forward sellers of potatoes are attempting to cancel contracts made earlier in the season. Though in most cases Melbourne buyers ore being honourably dealt with, exceptions ore men tioned. Australia 'bought largely in New Zealand for "forward delivery.
