ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

TO THE KD'ITOK OF THE PRKSS. Sir,—ln reading your report of the Acclimatisation Society it seems curious that with the large amount of revenue the Society derives from the sale of licenses, so few anglers and sportsmen appear to take sufficient interest to attend the annual .general meeting of the Society. The attendance is given as about 12, who elected a Council of 16. How is this thus? The total income of the Society is stated to be £794. Of this sum 668 fishing licenses supplies £563 10s. Game licenses 56. total not stated, but the surplus over last year's sales is £56 12s 6d. Total sate of turn*, fry, and yearlings not stated, but the amount received for fry sold to the Government is £67, leaving to be accounted for only £127. This sum I take to be made up of tSie difference between this and last year's game licenses a-nd trout sold to other parties than the Government, and a few pounds for subscriptions, probably from old retired araglers and sportsmen now retired from active Tvork, but still helping the good cause by a pound or so. Can any of your numerous angling and sporting readers throw any light on why they <lo not take more interest in the meeting*- of ihe Society, and help to make the Society a greater success by attending them? We frequently hear anglers complain of tha shortcomings of the Council of the Society, but why do they not attend the meetings? —Yours, etc., BLUE DUNN.
