The steamer Deptford, bound from London to Sydney, has gone ashore at Las Palmas. The fore hold and main hold have been pierced, and the entire cargo is being discharged. Lord Paunoefote, the British Ambassador to the United States, is ill, and his condition is critical. [The Right Hon. Sir Julian Pauncefote was born in 1828. He has been Attorney-Gene-ral of Hong Kong, Chief Justice of tie Lee-ward-Islands, and Assistant Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
