THE EARL OF KIMBERLEY.

The Earl ©f Kimberley was born in 1826, and succeeded his grandfather in the barony in 1846. Hβ lie.d various positions ia the diplomatic service, and -was "Undersecretary for Foreign Affaire in 1852-56, 1859-61. and again in 1894-95. Hβ acted as Under-Secretory at the India Office in 1864. and in the same year was -appointed Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, which -position Jie filled for two years. In 1870-74. and again in 1880-82, Lord Kimberley was Secretary for too Colonies; in 1882-86 and 1892-94 "Secretary for India; and in 1894----95 Secretory for Foreign Affairs. Hβ became leader of the Liberal party in the Housa of Lords in 1897. Lord Kirjjierley had been a measber of the Senate ot London University since 1859, and Chancellor •iace 1899.
