MR SIDEY RETURNED. (FBKSS ASSOCIATION TSXBGKAM.) DUSSTEDIN, December 19. The poll for Caversham took place to-day. Despite a steady rain the polling was large. The results are as follows: — Sidey ... ... 1620 Earnshaw ... ... .1515 Hally ... . ... 1120 Bedford 149 Warren ... ... 122 Meikle 27 Majority for Sidey 105. • The last three forfeit their deposits. There w>3 a large crowd at the declaration of the poll.". None of the candidates got. a good hearing, but Mr Earnshaw had the worst reception, and some over ripe eggs were thrown at him. (SPECIAL TO "THE 7KBSS."} DUNEDIN, December 19. Mr T. JL Sidey was born in the Oaversham where his fa/ther is a holder of considerable property.. He received . hia education at the Boys'. High School and the Otago University, where he took the degree of B.A. and LL.B. A solicitor by profession, he has taken an. active intereeb in literary and debating societies, and has been a zealous worker in ■ connection with the Oaversham Presbyterian Church. After serving as bonmgb, councillor Ihe is now occupying the poai-' tion of mayor for the third (term. He has been connected with educational matters, and hag worked hard for the Dunedin Horti- - cultural Society. His recent election as a member of the Drainage Board showed he • had the confidence of a large number outside the Caversham district. Mr Sidey • contested Caversham as an Independent ■witlh considerable Opposition leanings in 1896, but .was no* successafuL , On" this occasion he stands , as a general supporter of the Government policy.
