THE DISCOVERY.

A MESSAGE FROmJthE KING. THE VESSEL GOES|nTO DOCK AGAIX.| Captain Scott yesterdaylreoeived the following cable message froaj h:s Majesty ■ "The King wishes you all God speed; all success, and a safe retun|" The Discovers- went in 4 dock about sis o'clock yesterday morning SOOQ possible the water was pi|nped out of the duck, and men were set £ work removing the puies which protect |er stern. These, were with iron screws some 6 or Bin long, and abut an inch and a quarter in diameter. fThe drawing of these screws was not an «asy matter, and took a considerable time. 1 When the plates were removed it was f«md that what had been said to be solil wood work was not (iuit« so solid as supposed, and that from the t fleets of conclusions, probably in thf ice, water was percol4ing through "into the compartment separated} from the rest of the steamer by a watertigJt bulk head. The Indus of water was very flight, and could not. have been a socrce jof danger, as a very little pumping daily, would have got rid of any trouble that ootjld possibly arise However, caulkers were set to work, and the timber under the plates was made thoroughly impervious. . Last nigiit the replacing of the iron platep was begun, and the work was to be continued, if necessary, all night. The plates -will not be again screwed an. but will be fastened with iron bolts, slightly larger in djametvr than the screws, which will be driven in firmly. There is every reason to believe that the Discovery will come out of dock to-day, and leave on Saturday afternoon. Amongst the visitors to the Disooverv yesterday were Mr Justice Denniston and his Lordship Bishop Grimes, who was accompanied by the Very Rev. Dean Foley and Father Cooney, Professor Cook also went on board.
