SUMNER.
The Sumner Borough Council met on luesdav evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr W*. Roilitt), Cm Bradbury, Hugfiea, Pratt» Drew, Maffey. Rowell, and Senior. Account* to the amount.of £65 Os 6d were passed for payment A petition from ratepayers that the Council should take a poll as to the adoption of the Rating ton.-tin.'; improved Values Ace was presented by Cr. Rowt?lL- Tne Alavor said that the signatures should be checked to ascertain it they ail represented ratepayers. Cγ. Pratt,' ohainnan of the Increased Water Supply Committee, said he had no report to submit, but the Committee had passed the following resolutions:—"Thai this Committee recommend that with regard to the water service of Sumner the* cost of 200 water meters be • included in the loan proposals; thatkn annual charge of nob more than 5s pfjr meter be made for maintenance; thai the borough engineer be asked to furnish a return of the wages received by the present foreman since nis engagement; that the borough clerk write again to Palmerston South, and ask for the reason of the dissatisfaction with windmills; that tenders, be called for sinking "a second two-inch artesian well, at the pumping station. - ' He moved: "That the recommendation of the Committee to sink a two-inch well at the pumping station be adopted." Carried. The finance Committee reoorted that the receipts since last meeting had been £59 14s 6d, overdraft at the bank £141 10s 7d. The RedclifEs drain was ordered to be cleaned, and the road from the Redcliffs store to the beach to be repaired at a cost not exceeding £3 10s. Tenders for raising the footpath and concrete curbing from Morton street to Ekin's corner were opened! and" those of J. R. Hinds accepted. The Council then went into Committee on the tramway business.
