MUSIC ON THE ROTUNDA

AN APPEAL TO PARENTS.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir,—The City Council has made arrangemente with the Garrison and Stanmore Bands to occupy the rotunda on alternate Thursday evenings with, a view of providing music during the summer months. That the idea is appreciated is evidenced by the fact that between two and three thouand people have assembled each evening to listen to the music. The enjoyment, however, of a large number is completely spoilt by the behaviour of a lot of boys' and girls who will persist in, running round the rotunda shouting and shrieking and generally misbehaving themi selves. In addition to the annoyance thua (caused to those who attend for the pur- , pose of hearing good music rendered by j the bands, the* bandsmen themselves are frequently perturbed, and have their attention to what thiey are playing seriously interfered witk With a view of preventing- people from being thua . annoyed A arranged with, Inspector Ellison to have a constable in attendance to maintain order in the vicinity of the rotunda. So far the constable has ,uot been a success; why, I know not. Suffice it" to say he does not succeed in maintaining the object for, which be is in attendance. ' Now, in order that these open-air performances may , ibe made as enjoyable as possible, I want you to allow mc to make a direct'appeal to the parents of the boys and girls who attend the rotunda, to particularly caution their children against creating any disturbance when • they are allowed to go-out and'listen to'the music. If order is not maintained I am afraid the Council will nob feel disposed to renew their arrangements with the bands for another season, and some thousands of people will thus be deprived of the pleasure of listening to'the bands throughout the summer months.—Yours, etc., = . CM. GRAY.
