TO CORRESPONDENTS.

U.B.Q.—The Hon. W. P. Reeves, AgentGeneral for New Zealand, Victoria street, London. PAYMENT OF MEMBERS. TO TBS EDITOR OF THK PRBSS. Sir,—Your • correspondent, "Begin at Home," evidently desires to convey the impression to the minds _■ of your readers that I purposely absented myself when the first reading of "*he Payment of Members' Bill came on. I did not, and never have purposely absented myself from th& House to escape recording my vote on any division taken. I was not aware that the Bill was coming on, and arrived in the House shortly after the vote was taken. Had I been present I should have voted against the first reading of the Bill. In fairness to myself I think I may be permitted to say that I stick as close to my duties as any member in the House.—Yours, etc, H. G. ELL.
