' The truth, of the proverb about marry- •..'' . ing in haste and repenting at leisure is strikingly exemplified in the sensational .'' shooting case reported from Sydney in today's cable nevsrsl The man l?ike and his wife were both fairly •well known in certain circles here, and their marriage was as hasty and romantic as the sequel was sudden and tragic. Florence Gomes, who is only a, little over twenty, and is aa orphan, was employed as waitress in a restaurant, while Piko was living at a neighbouring hotel, and tseemed to be in receipt of means from England, -where it is believed he is well connected. Hβ became very popular, being hail-fellow-well-met with everybody, and spending hie money t freely. He met Miss • Gome 9 for the first time on Sunday, ■ September 15th, being introduced by the' barmaid of the hotel, and on the following morning they were married at the Registry Office, and left the same day for Sydney.
