PENINSULA HORSE SHOW

The Banks Peninsula Farmers' Association* <had a iperfect day, for thir/ir> Annual Horse Show, which, was held yesterday, in iMessi's Shadbolt Bros.' 'paddock at. Duvfluehelle'e-Bay.-- There -was/ a large attendance from,all ,parte of the Peninsula,' and'several visitors from Chrislchurch. The show was in all respects tine , best yet held by thte Association, the entries being larger in the principal classes, and,«though many of the prizes were woh. "by horses that had been '-successful in previous l yeara, the quality, of the general run jof the light horses brought into the ring showed an improvement. This was especially noticeable in the size of tihe horses. There was an absence of thte weedy ■sorts shown in previous years, and in several of the classes the judges hod to throw some out on account of their being -boo heavy for the work they were supposed to be able to perform. > . The- judges were:—Messrs J. ' Haydon (Christohuich),' L. Wilson (Teddington), and B.'Rainey (Linccin), whfise decisions gave general satisfaction.' The various officials worked 'hard to carry out the show successfully," and everything passed- off smoothly. ■ A capital luncheon for the officials and . judges was provided by the Committee at the Dirrauchelle's Bay Hotel. In the'entire class a powerfullybuilt three-year-old toy McAlpine was placed first, and some useful working horses were shown.' The 11 stone hack Class was the largest in the show, nineteen out of the twenty-one <m the card appearing in the ring. "The first prize went to Airs H. D. Buchanan's Piraki, a nice mannered hiGEse, the second place being filled toy Dr. Hargreave's Bobs, a neat chteetnut; while the tihird prize went to Mr F. Coop's stylish grey horse Mapire. . Mr E. Latter's Dolly again carried off first prize in the hack" brood mares, the class baing a good one. Mr R. J. Fleming's Tim scored a good win in the Daisy cart horse cljiss, and the ten classes for horses suitable .for any kind of work were well filled, Mr W. Teed' and Mr F; Mora taking the first prizes. The cobs formed a strong class, though somewhat /uneven, and there was a close contest for mc places between the three best animals, Mr R. J. Fleming winning, witli 'Mr' W. Birdling, jun.,- second. Mr H. w*. Piper showed a wek matched pair o f buggy horses by Victor, and were awarded first honours without competition. Some stylish horses were shown in the gig class, and Mr H. White's Ngata was again the winner, with Air F. C. Coop's. Mapire second. Mr G. McKay's Toby added another first prize to his long list by his win in the class orer 13 hands, and Mr J. ■C.; Hay's Thackey was much the best in the class fcr. ponies under 13 hands.-' The class for ikcka up to 15 stone orought out some fine horses, and Mr B. Shadbolt's Bravo scorecl a deservedly popular "■ win, with air H. White's Ngata a good kecond. There were no less than fifteen entries in the class for ladies , hacks, and they, werethe best lot ever shown from the Peninsula. . Shadbolt's Bravo scored another win in the class for dog-cart horses, over 15.2 hands, with Mr H. White's Snooks second, a very good lot of horses being shown.
