(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGKAM.) INVERCARGILL, October 21. The Ohamber of Commerce to-day, in reisponse to the Premiers telegram re the Federal tariff, passed a resolution strongly disapproving of the policy of reprisal as undignified and at variance with the spirit of fraternity that should eiriat between the two important dependencies of the Empire; that with the object of opening fresh markets the Government be urged to take stem to foster a trade with Africa by erecting" cool stores there and subsidising a line of steamers. A. motion suggesting export duty on dressed timber and a substantial duty on undressed, the revenue to be applied towards reafforestation, was held over till next meeting.
