CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR OUR BOYS."

» SUGGESTED CONTRIBUTIONS FROM ' CANTERBURY. As already mentioned, active steps are > being taken in Dunedin and Wellington to 1 send some Christmas gifts to the New Zealanders who are still fighting in South Africa, ■ with a view of affording them some slight encouragement in the very trying, work in w_ioh they are engaged, and showing them that they are not forgotten by their fellow colonists. As there was some doubt owing to tine difficulties of military transport, as to the possibility of getting parcels de- * livered to.the .men, .we.wrote to Colonel r 'Robin and Colonel Jows&y, a&king what, in the light of their experience in South Africa, they thought of the matter. Both - the officers named wrote' expressing their warm approval of the movement, and stating that they thought the men would receive any gifts despatched to them, if certain precautions in the way of addressing the parcels were taken. These letters are very, satisfactory, - and if our readers will only send on their donations in aid of the fund at once we have f little doubt of being able to get to "Our * Boys" at the front a seasonable and kindly reminder that they are not forgotten. It is evident that if anything is to be done it must be done at once,, and .we hope that [ contributions will be sent in quickly. In a . very few days it will be necessary to close the list. It is not necessary to raise a large fund, and we .do not ask for large subscriptions. A list has been opened at "The Press" Office, and 1 we shall gladly welcome, shillings and half- * crowns in aid of the fund, although we shall not refuse larger amounts. Residents in the country may send either postal notes or postage stamps, as. they find most convenient. We shall be glad if they will ' kindly write "Troopers' Gifts" on the out--1 side of the envelope.
