BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SUMNER. - A special meeting of the Sumner Borough Council was held on Tuesday evening. Present — The -Mayor (Mr W. Rottift), Crs. Brew, Maffie, Pratt, Roirefl, Seiritor, and Strong. It was decided to Apply to the bank ,for an overdraft of J3SOO. ' The Mayor reported that the Lyttelton Harbour Board htfd no objection to the. Summer foreshtore, under their control, being vested in the Council subject to certain provisions as to the Board's right to renew control if necessary. The Committee appointed on the water supply reported that tie .present cost of the water was Is s£d. per 1000 gallons. Cr. Pratt, the Chairman Committee, said that a different system of supply to houses wae needed, but the Committee would not be prepared with a recommendation till after & subsequent meeting. The subject of drainage was next considered. Dr. Symes, Health Officer, was present, and ' the proposed sohem* wrs considered at length. Dr. Symea expressed his pleasure 'that a drainage system was to*be carried out, and suggested certain alterations. He recommended certain experiments should be l < made ac to the ocean ourrents on the I beach. .This recommendation was adopted, [ 'and Cr. Pratt and the borough engineer } [ were appointed to make them. - - j
