« (PBESS ASSOCIATION TEXEOKAM.) DUNEDIN, October 16: At 11.30 last night a fire was discovered in a lean-to on. the reclaimed land, occupied ' by Isaac Walker. The neighbours rushed into the placa and dragged Walker out. He was then insensible, being severely burned . about the neck, head, arms, and legs. There was a delay of three-quarters of an hour in securing the services of the doctor, and when Dr. Macphers.on arrived he pronounced, life extinct. Death was probably due to suffo- f cation. Dsctaaed was seventy years old, and f was a well-known builfler. For the ' past week or so he had be cii living by himself in a little leanto structure at the back of one of his houses on the reclaimed ground. About half-past one o'clock, a neighbour, a Mrs Davis, had her attention attracted to a quantity of smoke coming into her kitchen. On inquiry into tne cause she soon found that it was coming from a little buildiugoccupied by Walker. She called her son, and another neighbour, and with difficulty the door of the lean-to was broken open. The place was full of smoke, and the names were burning freely. An entry was effected, and Walker dragged out. He was then insensible, and died soon afterwards.
