THE WILLIAM BLACK MEMORIAL BEACON.
The '-William Black Memorial Beacon," which has been erected qn the eastern coast of Mull, was lighted on May 12th, and on that night shone over the Highland seas for the first time. The following is a copy of the telegram which was sent by Mrs Black to all the members of the Committee:—"William Black Memorial Beacon. Lit to-day at three p.m. Thank you.—-Black." There waa no ceremony, but the following lines, entitled, 'Tn Silence AH," were written for tbe ocsaaion by Lord Archibald Campbell, and dedicated to the daughters of William Black:— "Here mid the splendour of the dying day, We consecrate this Light—in. Love's own way, In silence all.
"It is in silence that the day is born; It is in silence that the day—well worn—. Sinks into night. •Ta'fc not in silence that deep love is.born? It is in silence that deep grief is hornIn silence all."
