STABBING AFFAIR AT RICHMOND.

About 11.30 p.m. on Friday evening two men named Daniel Buekett and Charles Austm were walking home from the Star and Garter Hotel. At the corner of Victoria and Perth streets they overtook a man named Caleb James Lee, who waa walking along in a drunken condition, and making a great norse. There were two men near Lee at the time, but they left him as soon as Bockett and Austin came up. Lee lived only a few yards from tlie corner, awl Buckett asked him to £o home with him. Lee walked up the footpath with Buckett, and when near his own gate he Is alleged to have struck him a blow on the chest. Buckett did not pay mnch attention to it at the time, thinking it was only a blow from the fist. The place, howerer, began to give him considerable pain, and when he reached h«mo }» found that he was stabbed. ' Dr. Orchard was called, and attended Buckett. Toe doctor cannot say at present how things ■waM turn out, but states that had the Tweund been made a little lower or a little pje&er, Backet* would have bled to death internally. The doctor also says that tbe wound wa» caused by a blow from a knife. Constable FteweUen, of Richmond, arrested Lee at 2.30 on Saturday at has father's I house in Pwrth street. He wsub then in bed and his clothes -were scattered about the room. The constable could not find any knife in any of tive mac's pockets, but took poeaessiao of his father's pocket knife. Lee ww mate drank -when arrested, and when the charge waa explained to him he said that he did not know thai he had stabbed Bockett.

Lee appeared at the Magistrate's Court on Cktonday morning, and was charged with having attempted to stab Daniel Bucket*. As Bueketfc was unable to appear, Sergeant Lyons applied for a remand till Friday next. The remand was granted accordingly. Bail vm refused.
