The Hon. J. G. Ward has received a cable from the Hon. Mr Bullock, PostmasterGeneral at Canada, congratulating New Zealand on the adoption of the penny post. At an inquest on Mrs Larnbardt, who died while under chloroform,-the , jury returned a verdict of death by misadventure, the medical men who had charge of the case being exonerated from blame. NELSON, September 15. Mr Jas. Sclanders, loc<%l head of the firm Selanders and Co., died this morning, aged fifty-five. He had been a resident of Nelson for thirty or forty years, and was well respected, and a prominent citizen. He had bean in feeble health for many years, and succumbed to a recent attack of influenza. He leaves a widow' and four children.
