RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION.
AUCKLAND'S BRANCH LINES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.)
WELLINGTON, September 15. A deputation of Auckland members waited on the Premier, urging the claim of the branch lines to a fair share of expenditure. Mr Seddon said he thought that the Auckland members who had been, supporting the trunk line had agreed that the-expenditure on it should be at the cost of the branch lines. (Cries of "No, no.") As they now told Mm they still wanted their branch lines to go on as in the past, they had got back to the position of "as you ■were/ The Government still have sufficient left for the trunk line, and they would increase expenditure oi)'tbe trunk line consistently with the work that could profitably be done-this year, but he did not promise that-t-be vote would be ±;150,006. In answer to Mr Boflardj the Premier emphatically declined' to utilise foi the trunkline the asfEiMliafchad been spoken of. The funds required most be provided in the same way as the money wes-fatmd for other lines.
