NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

The annual meeting of the Yorkshire Society will be held at the rooms of the Caledonian Society to-night. A smoke concert will follow, at which advantage will be taken to wish Mr Walter Hill, one of the vice-presidents of the Society, a pleasant trip to England.

A meeting to consider the question oi establishing a Fire Police Corps in Sydenham will be held to-night in the Borough Council Chambers.

Competition in the chrysanthemum classes at the winter show of the Canterbury Ho ticuitural Society will be very keen, as the best growers from Timaru have entered their exhibits. Growers who intend to commence fruit-raising will obtain many useful hints by attending the show. Entries close this evening, at eight o'clock, with the hon. secretary, Mr E. C. Dunn.

The final rehearsal of the Chrietchurch Motett Society will be held in the Opera House to-night, at 7.45. The box plan will open at Milner and Thompson's to-day, at 10 a.m.

Lovers of flowers will see with interest a pot of Nerine fothergilli on exhibit in the window of Mr T. Turner, seedsman, Colombo street. There are four bloom spikes, carrying over forty flowers of a lovely colour. Mr Appleby is the exhibitor. The next Herren Abend of the Christchurch Liedertafel will be given in Hobbs's Building on May 4th. The concert of the Christchurch Orpheus Society will be given to-night in the Choral Hall.

A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury War Fund will be held this after noon, at fjur o'clock, at the City Counci Chambers.
