TO the editor OF the press. Sir, —Your leader on directors and speculation is well chosen, while the boomsters are about floating, etc. Dredging can be made an industry, providing men who have the honour of being chosen directors in companies are careful to give their names only to legitimate dredging claims, and not act as guinea pigs for the sake of fees, etc. The same applies to the Exchange. The directors should take steps to warn the public when they hear and see the sharking gentry taking down the confiding shareholders by their ~ull and bear tactics, which so frequently happens, and is even countenanced by some directors.
