A LINWOOD APPEAL.

. Sir, —Will you kindly allow mc to make an appeal to "the inembeis of the Linwood Rifle Corps and their friends? It is an appeal which, I am sure, they will all sympathise with, and respond to. Lance-Corpo-ral Taylor, of the Linwocd Rifle Corps, haa volunteered for service in the Transvaal war, and was, at a few hours' notice, on Saturday, ordered to Wellington for active service. I think it would be a kindly and graceful act for the corps to present their comrade and friend with a horse, and by so doing we shall show an appreciation of liim, and the sacrifice he ismaking for 'his Queen and country. It will be a small matter for us to do, but it will, I am sure, be valued very highly by him, and will demonstrate to his comrades in arms that he was esteemed by those h« has left behind. The horse the corps may give him will be bis own, and will, I hope", carry him safely through the war, and at the end may be sold, and the proceeds, if necessary, devoted to bringing him back to take his place, in his old.company, when. I am sure, every member will,be delighted to see him, Lance-Corporal Taylor was amongst the first to join the company, and is esteemed by all his comrades, ai he is a sterling, good feUow- •- " I have much pleasure in subscrib.ng £2 for the above purpose. I-may add that subscriptions will -be- received by any of the officers of.the company, or by myself.— Yours, etc., T. N: HORSLEY, Late Captain Linwood Rifles.
