THE CONDITIONS OF SERVICE RELAXED.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TEUteftAH.) WELLINGTON, December 28. •The limit of age for recruits has-been reduced to twenty-one, and they need not now necessarily be volunteers so long as the candidates have served two years in the New Zealand volunteer force; cadets not to count. Men who have belonged to Imperial cavalry regiments will also be accepted if suitable. Lieutenant Hume, of the Permanent Artillery, has been, it is understood, accepted for service in South Africa. A Canterbury man (Trooper Stuckey), who was (says the "Post") among the five men told to stand aside on Sunday, thinking he was finally rejected, left for Nelson. ■When he was finally selected Stuckey was absent. His comrades have telegraphed for him to return.
