ASHBURTON.
The Ashburton Borough Council, at a meeting on Wednesday, decided to co-oiterate with the Comity Council in preventing people camping and lighting fires in the riverbed near the traffic bridge. The tenders of Messrs Collins and Co for "250 casks of imported cement, at los 6d per cask, and of ilr (hm, for labour for ICK) chains of channelling, at ls 5d per chain, were accepted. Three tenders wore received'for a loan of £3750 at 4£ per cent. One for £3400 at par was accepted, -one for £200 at 1 per cent premium" and one for £150 at 1 per cent, premium. The matter of selecting streets for tarring and asphalting was referred to tbe Works Committee. Messrs Cox and Clark waited on the Domain Board, and asked that tbe bowling green and tennis court be immediately put in playing order. It was decided to erect tanks, a ram. piping and hose for the purpose of watering the green and lawn.
