DIOCESAN SCHOOLS.
The report of tbe Rev. A_ C; Hoggins* ' acting-Diocesan Inspector of Sc_oc_b, wais presented to tbe Synod yesterday. It covered a period of sixteen months, during which time he made 157 inspections. The number of schools on the list was 116, a* against 103 tlie previous year, including 104 Sunday schools, 4 day echoolu, and 8 classes in public schools. In the 104 Sunday schools there were 3454 boys and 3988 girls, and if were added 358 at the twelve schools not visited 7800 became the total on the Sunday ; school rolL The proportion of Sunday school to State school scholars was about 29 per cent. The average attendance at inspection was 71.54 per cent. The number of teachers in tbe schools inspected was 151 males and 616 females. Libraries existed in 61 schools. In the day schools there were 51 boys and 88 girls, and of a percentage of 70.86 who presented themselves for 51.35 per cent, satisfied the Inspector as to their att-inments. The eight classes in day schools had 120 boys and 100 girls; average attendance 68.18 per cent. He noted that the average age at which the children left Sunday school was tinder 12, and he urged that every nerve should be strained in raising that average to 14, 15 or 16.
