THE GENERAL ELECTION

£By Tklssgslaph.}

(TBOII OWR SPECIAL CORBESPONDBNT.) WELLINGTON, August 11.

The "Liberal ticket , ' for Wellington city at the coming election is said to have been determined by toe Premier, but the politicians who profess to know are at variance as to the chosen. One version is Messrs Fisher, Kirk, and Wilson; another, Messrs Fisher, Kennedy Maedonald, and Kirk. The latter is perhaps as strong a combination as could he named to defend the cause of Seddonism, bat can it be secured? Mr Macdonald would no doubt gladly enter the fray, but it ia whispered that he would prefer to stand as an Independent Liberal. Mr Wilford, it ie understood, will contest the Suburbs at a3l (hazards, and this will apparently compel Mr Kirk to once more try his fortune in the city. The "Wairarapa Star" states that the Rev. L. M. I&itt has definitely decided to contest the Masterton seat against Mr Hogg in the interest of the Left Wing. This announcement is not quite correct, as nothing has yet been finally decided. Mr Isitt will not be a candidate if the Opposition put a man in the field, but whether an oppositionist will be forthcoming cannot be finally decided lor a day or two. Then, again, it is doubtful whether the law will permit Mr Isitt to stand, as it is not clear wither three months' or twelve months' residence is necesgary to qualify oqe who has been absent from the colony.
