The Maggie Moore —IT. R. Roberts Company open their season in Christchurch tomorrow evening, at the Theatre Royal, in the Irish musical comedy "Mrs Quinn's Twins." Miss Maggie Moore, will be well remembered by playgoers here and will no doubt receive a warm welcome. Mr H. R. Roberts, who, by the way, is a native of Dunedin, has been for some years in Australia, whore he has been playing in all lines of the drama. His principal role is that of a character actor. On Wednesday night, at the conclusion of the Dunedin season, Mr Roberts was presented by the local branch of the N.Z. Nativr*' Association with an illuminated address. The Company, who will arrive by tho Rotomahana this morning, include Misses Ada Woodhill. Madge Corcoran, Lily Bransconibe. Grace Rheim. Osgood Mu'orc, Ktht-1 and Gladys Bushford, Messrs Alex. Cochrane, Herbert Ashton, J. J. Emiis. Fred. Eameltori. Walter Rivers, etc. The repertoire of the Company includes, besides the opening piecu. "A Prodigal Father, the "Trilby" biirhMUUo - 'specialty written for Miss Maggie- Moore, "The Silence of Dean Maitland, etc. Owing to unavoidable circumstances the playing of the Wuulstoii Band on the Rotunda, which was announced for Lust night, has been postanal until Monday next. AH the events will bo keenly contested, and some really good swimming may be looked fur. The last of the scries of local wool sales open to-day in the Chamber of Commerce. A capital programme of racing has been arranged, and if the weather proves nne, no doubt there will be a goodly gathering of visitors. The members of the Christchurch Amateur Operatic Society are pushing on with their rehearsals of '"The Pirates of Penzance." Two rehearsals a week are now held, and are Well attended. It is probable that Mr Whaite, who was so succe-ssiul with the scenery of "Pinafore." will paint that for •The Pirate*." . In connection witli the sports of the Aorta. Canterbury Caledonian Society, to be held at Ambcrlev on March 2nd, tenders are .invited for the privileges. Intending competitors are also reminded that entries lor the various events close on the 18th inst. As will be seen by a notification elsewhere, the Walter A. Wood Mowing and Reaping Midline Company, of Hoosick'Falls, New York, gives notice that it will cease to carry on business in New Zealand three months after this date. The fitting of the Court of Arbitration, appointed to be held in the Provincial Council Chamber at 10.30 a.m. on Monday next, hai been adjourned until Monday, February 20th, at the same time and place. A tennis tournament, in which the member, of tho Canterbury, Linwood, New Brighton, Springfield, Sydenham, and Woolston Clubs will take part, commences on Saturday at Lancaster Park, and will be continued on following Saturdays. Play will conunence at 2 p.m. The installation of Bro. H. C. Satchell, as W.M. of the Canterbury Lodge, 1048, E.C., and the investiture of his officers, will tako place to-night at the St. Augustine Masonic Hall. A general meeting of the Railway League will be held at the City Council Chambers to-night at 8, -when the revised report of the Committee will be submitted. Tho Weflfcngton .Rowing Club will enter three senior crews Jfor events at tho Christchurch Regatta on the Estuary on the 23rd Inst. The secretary, Mr F. D. Kesteven, is now in communication with the Dunedin Rowing Club and _he Star Boating Club with reference to tljeir entering for various events. The new club-house ot the Christchurch Cycling Club will be formally opened on Thursday, 16th inst., at 8 p.m. The building; is very commodious and convenient, and the members are to be congratulated on their new quarters. < The Stanmore Band will play on the Rotunda this evening, under the baton of Mr R.
