United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.! LONDON, February 8. Sir William Laird, the well known shipbuilder, is dead. SYDNEY, February 9. Mr David McCaughey, the well-known Riverina sheep breeder, is dead. (Sir William Laird, X.8., was born at Blairgowrie, N. 8., and was the third son of the late James Laird, farmer, of Cruchies. He was educated at Blairgowrie Parish School, and was trained to the legal profession. He took service with William Baird and Co., ironmasters, Gartsherrie, and was admitted a partner in 1878..
