MINING NEWS.
• Mr James Henderson has received cable advice confirming news of the discovery of hi<rh grade ore in the No. 5 tunnel of the Mount Lyell mine. A hand essay gives the following results:—Copper, 11 per cent.; silver, 60oz per ton; gold, ldwt per tan. Shares have risen to £9 2s 6d. A telegram received by Mr William A. Moss, from Mr Afred Millor, Melbourne, states:—Mount Lyell Mining Railway Company—"Promising development No. 5 tunnel, south drive. Hand sample, Hi per cent, copper; 60az silver, ldwt gold per tea; bulk boring over whole face of drive. 15£ per cent copper, 350z silver, 3dwt gold per ton. Looks very favourable." (PEESS ASSOCIATION TBLR3BAII.) AUCKLAND, February 8. In the Woodstock crushing for four weeks, 1220 tons have been treated for £1638.
