OBITUARY.
PRINCE ALFRED OF COBURG. United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, February 7. The death is announced of Prince Alfred of Coburg, son of the Duke of Saxe-Coburg (the Duke of Edinborough), aged twentyfive. Death was due to a chronic cerebral attack. By tlie death of Prince Alfred of Coburg, the Duke of Connaught becomes heir apparent of the dukedom of Saxe-Coburg. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, February 8. Mr James Wilkie, the well-known journalist, and member of the Conciliation Board, who has been ill with cancer for many months past, died to-day. (Mr Wilkie, who was an able journalist, acted for some years in Wellington as a special correspondent of various newspapers. Latterly, whilst suffering from the malady which attacked him, he pluckily continued his work, until at last compelled by his illness to finally put down his pen. He underwent several operations with great fortitude. Mr Wilkie was well known on the West Coast, where he was interested in mining operations).
