At the inquest on \V in bley, who was shot by Miss Patereon, the evidence showed that the shooting was premeditated. Miss Paterson explained that she shot Whibley in order to protect the Sunday school children from Whibley's misconduct, but her allegations were apparently groundless. A verdict of wilful murder was returned. A DISTILLERY FIRM SUSPEND PAYMENT. Alexander Muir and Company, distillers, Alloa, Blackmannshire, Scotland, have suspended payment. The liabilities are estimated at £61,216 and the assets 5s 6d (? £56,000). AN ENCOUNTER WITH BRIGANDS. IN INDIA. , CALCUITA. February 7. The garrison occupying Edwardesabad, on the Kuram river, in the Punjaub, while dislodging brigands at Goornatti had six men killed and fourteen wounded. Major Davidson, the wing commander of the 2nd Sikh Infantry, was amongst those severely wounded.
