KAIAPOI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

+ The fortnightly meeting was held on Tuesday. Present—The Mayor (Mr Feldwick), Crs. Hopkins. Daly, Edmonds.' Doubleday, Bugg, Hayman, and Pearce. Lettew were read—Prom the Mandeville Road Board, in regard to boundary road repairs. From the Ashburton County Council for two years rates on the 2000 acre reserve. Councillors commented strongly on the laxity of the County Council in not -' claiming last year's rate when due, so that, the Borough Council might have had it» remedy against- the tenant at the time. A) resolution recommending the County Council to be more punctual in this respect was carried, on the motion of Cγ. Hayman, seconded by Cr. Knight. The Works Committee reported that the cost of the formation of a new street on the sandhills would be £22 15s. It was srtated that about £14 would be contributed. The mniter was deferred, as the Act provided that the owners must form streets laid off privately. Cr. Knight made a full report on the drains. It was resolved that notice be given to residents on east aide of Akaroa street to refrain from draining into the side-channel, as a drain at the rear of the sections was provided. Tho question of covering a drain near thp' Mandeville Hotel was referred to the Works Committee. The Finance Committee reported that, the receipts were £5 19s 4d. The debit balance was £404 2s lid. Accounts (including for charitable aid iot the quarter £12 6s, and hospital £10 12s 2d) H amounting to £54 3s 5d were passed. It V was decided that all the Councillors should V inspect a drain in Akaroa street. The Mayor ■ reported the Hon. Minister of Lands had 1 promised to attend to the replanking of the . - 1 bridge. It was resolved the Clerk should * ' see that all crossings over channels were put in proper repair or.those left'unattended to woJydDa removed. ■ * The Mayorwae asked to notify Friday as a holiday for the borough school picnic.
