THE VOLUNTEERS.

:i*A :meeting of the volunteer officers was held last night in the Garrison Library, when further details were settled in connection with the battalion camp, which commences on Saturday next. The camp is to be a morning and evening one, the men being able to attend to their ordinary avocations during the day. The corps parade at the Drill Shed "ground at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday, and marca to Bryndwr, where the camp, which has been named Elmwood, is to be held. There is to be a church parade on Sunday morning, and by the evening orders will be issued for the conduct of the camp and the hours of drill. A fatigue party, under the Quartermaster, will pitch the tents on the Friday. Mr F..A. Cooke has been appointed caterer; there* is to bo no canteen. The Government provides tents and camp utensils. Tlie camp will last until Monday, 20th, and it is expected that during the time there will be fully 350 volunteers under canvas.

The Queen's Cadets* camp, at New Brighton, terminated yesterday morning, when tents were struck. Last night the corps was instructed by LieutenantColonel Gordon. and there were present Major Slater, Captain Linn, and Lieut. Bishop. During the camp a competition was set- up for the best kept ton!;, and it was won Oy Sergeant Browi;. with Sergeant Mansfield a good second. Lieutenant Hawdon, of tbe City Rifles, was a passenger for the south by the express yesterday, and is on his way to join the 24th Regiment, to which hte has been commissLoned, at Meerut, in India.
