Senior has withdrawn as a candid_te for a seat in :he Sumner Borough Council. It is notified that in consequence of a trade cricket match the various jewellers and watchmakers will close at noon tomorrow. A meeting re the Building Trades' picnic will be held on Friday at t_e Druids' Hail at eight o'clock. «. A meeting of master bakers, journeynun and carters- will be held at the Shades Hotel at eight o'clock this evening re picnic. \ Tho display of fireworks at New Brighton will take placd to-morrow. Trams leave the Square at 7.15 p.m. The Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union meet at the Claiendon Hotel this afternoon to consider matters connected with the proposjd. v__t oi an liiiigiisn lootoall team. At the ordiuaiy meeting of the Executive Committee of tha Sydennain Poultry Club Council it was reported that the rehearsals of the dances under Signor Borzoni were progressing satisfactorily.
Tne Caxistchui-ch __eat Company's employees iae about to hold their sixth annual excursion picnic, and a conimittee of ten has been selected to make arr_ngements. The place selected is Ashburton. A tt*y will oe given to every chad on- the train, and a programme of comic events is provided. A orass band has been engaged ior the day. The liberality of the company to their employees has insured an enjoyable outing for them and their friends annually. At a meeting, of the Waimate Saleyards Company tiie plans of the yards were definitely approved and adopted, and instructions given to call for tenders for erecting, making gat-ss and providing posts and timber. /
