AN INTERESTING MAORI RELIC.
A handsome greenstone mere, about 2ft in length, has been shown to our Kaiapoi correspondent by Mr C. Scatt, solicitor, at Rangiora. It is owned by Mr Eruera Te Aik. and Te Hau, and his father, Aperaha_aa Te Aik. The implement has a. beautifully polishetl surface, and is modelled ou perfect lines, the edges being as sharp as a knife. It is over 100 years old, and was made on the West Coast, and intended to be used more as a sign ot the raugitira than the warrior. Aperahama Te Aik had it at the first invasion of Kaia,r>c_ia, and after the second attack it was taken to Port Levy, and lent by the old man to Karatia, of Waikouaiti, where for some time it remained.
