LONDON, February 2. The Bank of England rate of discount is 3 per cent.
Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cablegrams from their London office, under date Ist instant:
"The wool sales closed firm except for the bulk of inferior, faulty, and eSitfay merino wools (greasy) and coarse crossbred (greasy). The total colonial wool available (Australasian and Cape) including old stocks, ws~ 185,000 bales, out of wnich some 77,000' bales have been sold for home consumption, 82,000 bales for the Continent, 6000 bales for America, leaving 20,000 bales to. be carried forward to the next series/ As compared with the closing rates of last series, prices are, on the average, 5 percent! to 10 per cent, higher for merino and fine crossbred wools, also for merino broken fleece, pieces, bellies, and locks, and at par to 5 per cent, higher for inferior, faulty and earthy greasy wools and coarse crossbred." February 8. ' "There is a good demand for hides, and since our last telegram prices are higher by id per pound.".
