A CURRANT CAKE DIET.
The bushmen of 1860 in the Canterbury forests are said to have been partial to good living on currant cake. An authority on the matter informed a public meeting recently that in tkost days they bought
warrants by the hundredweight. The fact was, fruit was scarce, <md currants for sake, also dried American apples for pasties and puddings were in demand. The .-arrant cake was eaten with mutton chops and beef steak.
