The steamer Glaucus has been chartered to bring coal from Newcastle to Lyttelton. She will afterwards go to Kaipara and load timber there for Sydney. The Union Company's new steamer Mokoia, whTch haii at Sydney, carries a launch worked by an oil engine. Tyne in the Mediterranean. Her iron decks are being covered with deck planks, and further alterations are being effected to fit her for troops. She will be first employed in carrying troops from Alexandria to Crete. After, that her duty will be to carry relief stores and munitions of war to the vessels of the Mediterranean. Captain A. Murray, the well-known commander of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's barque Akaroa, now waiting to sail from Port Chalmers for Gisborne, has resigned his post *° * ake charge of the Bteamer Jane •Douglas. Captain Murray, who has his wife and children with him, will Akaroa to Gisborne where someone will besppointed in Mr Tosswill, late second officer of the Riihntaka, is expected to succeed Mr Fraser as chief officer of the Waikato.
