— The War Panorama with several additional, pictures was repeated at the Theatre Royal last night, when there was a good audience. In connection with the concert part of the programme, Mrs Howie sang in the first part " A Dream Within a Dream." In the second part, she sang "Golden Days," and for an encore "My Old Kentucky Home." Miss Lilian Smith, Mies L. Thompson, Mr Miller, and Mr P. Hockley also sang. There will be a matinee, performance this afternoon, when several new pictures will be introduced. Tonight in the concert programme Mrs Howie will sing "Ben Bolt ? ' and "The song that reached my heart;" Miss Lilian Smith, " In Old Madrid" and " Where,: the Lindens Bloom;" Miss Lilian will sing "By the Blue Sea "and "Love's Old Sweet Song," and Mr Hockley and Mr Millar will also sing new songs. This will be the last exhibition of the war pictures here. Particulars relating to the above performances will be found in our advertising columns on page 11. The fortnightly meeting of the East Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held last evening. Owing to the large number of inter-club events to be held this month it was decided not to hold any more I club races till after the New Year. Five new members were elected. The following officers were elected :— Superintendent, Mr A. Hulbert; assistant superintendent, Mr W. C. West; secretary, Mr T. Kershaw; assistant secretary, Mr T. N. Adnams ; treasurer, Mr E. Baker; librarian, Mr A. Berry; assistant librarian, Mr H. Berry; tablet examiner, Mr J. Peek; pianist, Miss F. Dowfe; precentor, Mr Geo. Daltry ; representatives to Sunday nehool Union, Miss Adnams and Mr F. v *?' *' Drar y committee, Messrs' Hanham, Peek and Voyce, and Misses Cook, Bbnnington and Adnams. A deputation from the teaching staff, was received, to consider the question of holding the annual excursion for the school children and their parents, and it was resolved that the children be taken to Sumner on Thursday, December _3ind, on the same terms as last year, and that Mr Edwards' offer to supply tea be accepted. The head master reported the attendance to be low, roll number 1145, with an average attendance of 960. It was resolved that it be an instruction to the teachers to advise the head master, who will report) to the committee, of any suspicious case of neglect or cruelty to a child attending the school on the part of a parent or guardian, in view of making strict enquiries thereon. It. was resolved J that the Board of Education be asked to i approach the Government with a view to j getting the absentee notices delivered free [ of charge to parents by the postal authorij ties. The meeting then adjourned. I A successful concert was given at St. i Mark's, Opawa, on Thursday, in aid of the ! picnic fund of the Opawa * school. Vocal i selections were very creditably sung by the school children, who, with the audience", nartook of the refreshments which were liberally provided by Mrs Wood, Miss Banks and Mr Baunton. The ladies and gentlemen who provided the programme were Misses Meadows, Butcher, and B. Bouse, Mrs Askew, Messra Suckling, Roche, Close, Horton, Emp-on, Erwin, and McCutcheon.
