THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
TO TOE EDITOR OF THE TRESS. Sir,—l was very pleased to read in this! Week's issue of tho "Weekly Press" your I special reporter's interview with Mr W. j Weddel the great meat salesman of London. As a farmer, and one who has suffered through damaged cargoes, that portion of the interview dealing with this important subject I read with a great deal of pleasure, and I think Mr Weddel struck the keynote when lie advocated the erection of sorting sheds. As the Christchurch Meat Company have taken the lead in opening up shops of thenown, so I hope they will lead in the van by opening up sorting sheds of their own. J They have likewise taken the bull by the ' horns by having a resident agent in London who has had practical experience in the colony. They could send Home one of their experienced clerks from their freezing works ,at Islington to take charge of the sorting shed, who would be conversant with the various brands, and so reduce the handling to a minimum. I hope the Directors of the Christchurch Meat Company will take this matter up, and they will in return receive the support of the farmers of Canterbury.—• Yours, &c, . ~ A FARMER. Ashburton, 3rd December, 1898.
