LOVELY AKAROA.

TO THE EDITOB, OF THE I_ES.*. Sir, —I have made frequent visits to the above favourite holiday resort, -and have always enjoyed them; but my last visit i found it anything but enjoyable. The authorities who are supposed to have the interests of the town at heart, nave allowed a fish factory to start operations in the centre of the town, next door to the parsonage. The consequence is that the whole neighbourliood is polluted with the smell from the works. The jetty, my favourite resort for a stroll, is now past bearing, being covered with foul-smelling sacks, and the beach is lined with fish heads and offal from end to end. These decaying in the sun during the recent hot weather, are not only a source of annoyance to visitors, but a danger to health. That the Town Council should allow such a nuisance to exist is short-sighted policy, as it will certainly keep visitors from going to the place. I for one was glad to get away and get the fresh air of Christchurch again.—Yours, &c, A LADY VISITOR.
