MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &De.

The kmematograph representation of the Spanish-American w-ar was repeated last night at the Theatre Royal. Ihe concert programme went excellently throughout, Mrs C. Edgar acting as accompanist. Tonight the pictures will be again exhibited* and to-morrow afternoon there will be a matinee performance in addition te the usual evening one. To-night's entertainment will be under the patronage of his Worship the Mayor, nis Lordship Bishop Julius, and Colonel Gordon.

Last night the gentlemen connected with the production of "H.M.S. Pinafore" entertained the ladies of the company at a most enjoyable social in St. John's Schoolroom.' Mr C. H. Fox provided the dance music, and songs, were given by Misses Lucy Ryan, Wilkinson, and Wells, and Messrs Zachariah, C. Read and others.

The Okain's Savage Club, under the presidency of Mr John R. Thacker, gave a plain and fancy dress ball to the inhabitants'of the Bay on Friday evening, Mr C. H. Fox; of Christchurch, presiding at the piano. The beautiful dresses and varied characters presented a pretty scene. A prize, decided upon the vote of those present for the "belle of the ball," was awarded Miss Ada Mason.

A meeting, arranged by the Chinese class of the Oxford Terrace Baptist Church, in aid of the Indian mission, was held last night, and well attended. Mr J. Chidgey presided, and addresses were given by the Revs. W. Scorgie and J. J. Doke. Before the meeting tea was served, whicn had been supplied by the members of the class, and the proceeds, together with the collection taken up at the public meeting, were devoted to the Indian mission.

Mr J. Blair spoke, at the Albert Hall last night on "The future of the human race as revealed by the Bible." There was a large audience.

The St. Albans school picnic was held in the Kaiapoi Domain yesterday. A train", consisting of seventeen carriages,' most hi which were well filled, conveyed the excursionists to Kaiapoi. On Friday last, Miss Sims and a party from Kaiapoi gave a benefit entertainment at Ohoka, in aid of the family of the late Mr H. Vette. There was a good attendance, and about £7 was collected by this means for the fund. -' •' '
