NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
A meeting of ladies will be held in the Orange Hall, Worcester street, this evening, with a view of considering the formation of a Lodge of Daughters of Rebekah, under the auspices of theßidgley Lodge, 1.0.0. F., A.C.
The next term of the Christchurch School of Art will commence on Monday, September 19th.
The next term of the Boys' and Girls' High Schools will commence on the 21st inst. In connection with the former the Head Master will be at the school to see parents or guardians on Tuesday, September 20th, from 9.30 to 12.30 p.m. The Lady Principal of the Girls' High School will be at the school on Tuesday, September 20th, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. The ordinary meeting of the City Council will be held to-night at the usual hour. The benefit to Miss Ada Juneec takes place this eveoing at the Theatre.. The programme is a varied one, comprising a goodly number of items of different kinds..
As will be seen by a notification elsewhere, members of Prohibition Leagues are informed that copies of Mr T. E. Taylor's book, "The Shadow of Tammany," can be obtained at the office of '?The Prohibitionist."
Arrangements have been made by which the Albert Lucas Company will bridge over the interim between now and the appearance at the Theatre Royal of a regular company by giving performances on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday evenings: The first performance will be given on Thursday next, when "The Bells" and "A Regular Fix" will be played. At the next meeting of the Council of the N.Z. A.. Athletic Association, the resolution of Mr E. M. Carr with reference to the inclusion of cycling events on the programmes of athletic meetings will be considered. The motion is to the effect that affiliated clubs should be asked to call special meetings to consider—(l) whether they are in favour of cycling events being included on their programmes; (2) if they were in favour whether they should be solely under the control of the N.Z. Cyclist Alliance, or should they be permitted to" place events on their programme under the control of the N.Z. League of Wheelmen. A public meeting in connection with the Christian Social Union will be held in St. Michael's schoolroom to-night. Mr W. Jacques will read a paper on " Old Age Pensions."
The annual general meeting of the Midland Canterbory Cricket Club is to be held on Saturday next, 17th inst. At a meeting of the students.of Canterbury College on Friday last, it was decided to iorm an athletic club and to hold annual sports, the first sports meeting to be held in 1899. A provisional committee was appointed to draw up rules and report at a future date.
