The Chinese Government has granted the concessions demanded by France in connection with the murder of a missionary in Kwangsi. The concessions include the right to construct a railway which will be the means of completing a trade route through Tonking and Southern China. DIVIDEND. London, June 8. The Directors of the New Zealand and River Plate Land Mortgage Company have declared an interim dividend of 5 per cent, per annum. BANKRUPTCY OF MR HOOLEY. Mr E. T. Hooley, the well-known financier, has filed a petition- in bankruptcy. THE SIERRA LEONE REBELS. News has been received that the rebels in the Sierra Leone Hinterland are deserting their leader. GREAT BRITAIN AND AMERICA. In the House of Commons Mr Curzon stated that negotiations were proceeding for the settlement of all pending questions between -Great Britain and America. A FATAL FIRE. By a fire in a house at Scarborough a mother and six children were burned to death. MOROCCO AND GERMANY. Berlin, June 8. In order to check the French demands for an extensive frontier rectification between Algeria and Morocco, the Sultan of Morocco has offered Germany the usufruct of the territory on the Muluya river. AUSTRIAN AFFAIRS. Vienna, June 8. In the Reichsratb, Dr. Schoenerer, the leader of the National German Party, declared a revolution would follow obstruction if the demands of the party were noli conceded. Germany, he said, would not permit the German Ausfcnans to be annihilated.
TRAGEDY AT A BANQUE§. St. Petersburg, June 8.
During a banquet of native notables at St. Petersburg, Prince Melikoff quarrelled with and shot Prince Gouriel, and another notable thereupon attacked and killed Melikoff. Gage, Secretary of the Treasury, in a message to the House of Representatives, says it is necessary to convert into coin 97,000,000d01s worth of gold bullion (about £20,000,000 worth) which the Treasury holds. They expected to rereceive twelve or fifteen millions of gold from Kiondyke in July. Received June lOtli, 1.25 a.m. THE FRENCH MINISTRY. Paris, June 9. M. Meline, the Premier, proposes, if his policy is approved, to remodel the French Cabinet and bring it into accord with the recent elections. All his colleagues have offered to facilitate the step by resigning. ***' LORD ABERDEEN. Ottawa, June 9. The House of Commons has unanimously passed a resolution regretting the resignation of Lord Aberdeen, Governor-General.
